How Cortie works: an AI assistant for video calls
Cortie is an AI meeting assistant for Mac that lives inside your camera. Install it, pick it as your camera in Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, then say Cortie
and ask. The answer shows up on your video, so everyone in the call sees it.
Three steps
- Install the Mac app. Drag Cortie into your Applications folder and open it. A short checklist walks you through signing in with your invite code and turning on Cortie's camera.
- Pick Cortie as your camera. It shows up next to your webcam in the camera list of Zoom, Meet or Teams. Zoom and Meet remember the choice, so you pick it once.
- Say
Cortie
and ask. Start a meeting in the Cortie window, or click Start Meeting when Cortie offers one as your call begins. Then begin with its name and ask in one breath:Cortie, give us three directions for the onboarding flow.
Only you install it
One Mac runs Cortie. Everyone else joins the call from whatever they normally use, with nothing to install. They see Cortie's answers on your video, and anyone in the call can say Cortie
and ask too.
What shows up on your video
Cortie draws on top of your camera picture. What it shows depends on how big the request is.
- Short notifications. A quick answer is one plain sentence beside the Cortie logo, and it goes away on its own. Say
Cortie, tell me more
to get the full card. - Answers and research comparisons. Ask for a competitor's pricing or today's stock price, or ask Cortie to compare options properly. Bigger research lands as a card, with its sources.
- Drafts on the spot. A calculator, a comparison or a few slides, for everyone to react to. Change a card by talking to it:
Cortie, make the second one cheaper.
The card shows Updating… while it changes. - Questions for the room. When Cortie needs something from you to finish, like which day works, it asks on a card and waits for the answer.
- Meeting booking, with a confirm step. With Google Calendar or Outlook connected, say
Cortie, let's meet again Friday at 3 with Priya.
Cortie puts the proposed invite on a card. Sayyes
to book it, orno
to drop it. Moving or cancelling a meeting you organize works the same way: nothing changes until the room says yes.
Cards only when called by name
Talk normally. Cortie puts up cards only when someone says Cortie
. Talk that isn't for Cortie gets nothing, or at most a short line beside its logo, such as Say “Cortie” and I'll book it.
A few words move the cards without the name: close the front card, bring back the last card closed, hide and unhide all the cards, and yes or no to answer a confirm card.
Languages
Cortie understands requests in English and Chinese, including both in one sentence. In Chinese you can also call it by its Chinese name, 嗑弟.
What you need
A Mac with macOS 14 or later, and Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams. For your teammates to call Cortie too, the Mac needs macOS 14.2 or later. Cortie is in an invite-only beta.
