Cortie

Cortie FAQ: the AI meeting assistant in your camera

Short answers about Cortie, the Mac app that puts an AI assistant on your video in Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams.

The basics

What is Cortie?

Cortie is an AI meeting assistant for the Mac that lives inside your camera. It follows the discussion, looks things up, checks the facts behind a decision, and puts the answers on your video in Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, where everyone in the call can see them.

Which meeting apps does Cortie work with?

Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams. Cortie works as a virtual camera: it shows up next to your webcam in the app's camera list. Pick Cortie as your camera and start a meeting in the Cortie app, and its cards appear over your video for everyone in the call.

Do the other people in the call need to install anything?

No. Only one person installs Cortie. Everyone else joins the call the way they normally do and sees Cortie's answers on that person's video. Anyone in the call can ask Cortie something by saying its name.

Mac and Windows

What Mac do I need?

A Mac with macOS 14 or later. For Cortie to hear the other people in the call, not only you, it needs macOS 14.2 or later.

Is Cortie available for Windows?

No. Cortie runs only on a Mac right now. The people you meet with can join the call from whatever computer they normally use.

Talking to Cortie

How do I call Cortie?

Say “Cortie,” then ask in one breath. For example: “Cortie, what are we missing in this plan?” or “Cortie, give us three directions for the onboarding flow.” In Chinese, you can also call it 嗑弟.

What happens when people talk without saying “Cortie”?

Mostly nothing. At most it shows one short line beside its logo, like the right figure when someone states a fact wrong, a quick answer to a factual question, or an offer to book a meeting once someone says its name. Cards come only from a request made with its name.

Which languages does Cortie understand?

English and Chinese, including both in one sentence.

What shows up on your video

What can Cortie show on my video?

Two kinds of things. A notification is one short sentence beside Cortie's logo, used for quick answers. Cards hold bigger work, like research with its sources, a comparison, a calculator or a few slides, and they stack in the bottom right corner of your video. When Cortie needs something from the room, such as which day to meet, it asks on a card and waits for the answer.

Can I hide or close the cards?

Yes, by voice, without saying “Cortie”: “close” closes the front card, “back” brings back the last card closed, and “hide” and “unhide” take all the cards off your video and back. To change what a card says, talk to it with the name: “Cortie, make the second one cheaper.”

Can Cortie book a follow-up meeting?

Yes, once you connect Google Calendar or Outlook. Say “Cortie, let's meet again Friday at 3 with Priya.” Cortie proposes the invite on a card and books it only after the room says “yes”; “no” drops it. It can move or cancel a meeting you organize the same way.
